Morristown’s Roadmap to Sustainability
Where do we go from here?
A key sustainability report issued last year by design and planning professionals from the American Institute of Architects outlines the steps Morristown should take to ensure a healthy, prosperous community for current residents and future generations. Representatives from the Sustainable Design Assessment Team (SDAT) visited last year and held planning sessions with residents, government officials, business owners, institutional leaders and youth representatives to hear their perspectives and priorities.
As a follow up to that report, Morristown Partnership held a Step Ahead! Sustainability Showcase at this year’s Festival on the Green that highlighted different components of the proposal. The SDAT report is simply a recommendation, and getting local government, local businesses, and residents involved is crucial to its success or failure – and ours.
Morristown was one of only ten cities selected in 2008 by the American Institute of Architects to participate in the SDAT program. With a similar focus as our local Step Ahead! movement, the SDAT report provided Morristown with a roadmap to embrace its history and sense of community while carefully managing redevelopment, population shifts, and global economic and environmental concerns.
